How to use FTP?

What is FTP?FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is a utility that lets you transfer files over the internet. There are various softwares that you can use to FTP.
WS_FTP LE

Download the trial version of WS_FTP LE After you've downloaded the trial version of WS_FTP LE version, open the program and the first dialog box that will appear is the Session Properties box.

*Use the login information on the Web Space Confirmation letter that was sent to you via email.

  1. Select the General tab
  2. Enter your domain name in the Profile Name: filed.
  3. Enter your domain name or IP address (130.94.91.36) in the Host Name/Address: field.
  4. Host Type should be set at Automatic Detect.
  5. Enter your "We Host Anyone" user name in the User ID: field.
  6. Enter your "We Host Anyone" password in the Password field.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Your FTP software is setup with two windows.
  9. The Left window will show your PC profiles.
  10. The Right window will show your site profiles.
  11. To upload, select your files and click on "right arrow"box to transfer your files to your site.
  12. Be sure to select the Auto radio button.

WS_FTPPRO

Download the trial version of WS_FTP PRO After you've downloaded the trial version of WS_FTP PRO version, open the program and the first dialog box that will appear is the Connection box.

  1. Select Quick Connection on the left window.
  2. Enter your domain name in the Host Name: field.
  3. Enter your "We Host Anyone" username.
  4. Enter your "We Host Anyone" password.
  5. If you have additonal domains, you may add them to your profile list.
  6. Select File on the menu bar.
  7. Scroll down and select New Site.
  8. A New Site dialog box will pop up.
  9. Enter your domain name in the Create a site name: field.
  10. Enter your domain name or IP address (130.94.91.36) in the Host Name or IP Address: field.
  11. Click Finish.

Fetch 4.01 (Mac Users)

Fetch is a shareware FTP client, which can be used to send and receive files from network hosts that support the TCP/IP File Transfer Protocol.The software is free to students and non-profit organizations.To learn more, please refer to Dartmouth College for more information about Fetch software.   1. Double-click on the fetch icon. And fill out the appropriate fields as shown in the picture below.

User Connection

  1. Double-click on the fetch icon.
  2. A New Connection.. dialog box will be prompt for you to enter your login information.

  3. Enter the following information: Host: web.wehostanyone.com
  4. User ID : user_name

    Password: password


    Refer to your Web Confirmation Letter for your login information.Anonymous Connection

  5. Enter the following information:
  6. Host : web.wehostanyone.com

    User ID :anonymous

    Password: any@emailaddress.com

DreamWeaver 6.0

Download the trial version of DreamWeaver MX After you've downloaded the trial version of DreamWeaver MX version, install and open the program. Fromthe top Menu Bar locate the option Site and click on it.

*Use the login information on the Web Space Confirmation letter that was sent to you via email.

  1. Select the Local Info option from the Category list on left site.
  2. Enter your domain name in theSite Name: filed.
  3. By clicking on the Folder Icon next to the Local Root Folder field locate the folder on your local machine that contains the Web Site files and folders that you have created.
  4. Now select the Remote info from the Category list and from the Accessdrop down menu select FTP.
  5. Enter web.wehostanyone.com in the FTP Host:field.
  6. Enter your "We Host Anyone" user name in the Login:field.
  7. Enter your "We Host Anyone" password in the Passwordfield.

MS Frontpage 2000 FTP

If you already have existing files on your site and you need to only update your files,please refer to

  1. Once you've designed your web pages with Frontpage 2000,save your files and click on File
  2. Select Publish Web...
  3. A Publish Web dialog box will prompt you to enter your site's URL.
  4. Next, a Name and Password Require dialog box will prompt you to enter your username and password.

Sample Web Confirmation Letter

Your account is now activated and accessable. You can transfer your files to our servers using
any FTP program and the following information: HOST: web.wehostanyone.com

LOGIN: user_name
PASSWORD:password

Please take this opportunity to familiarize your self with your new account.
When you FTP into the server you will be placed in your home directory: /http/username/ **************************************************************

Anonymous FTP

There is a special form of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) available called Anonymous FTP.You have an option to setup an Anonymous FTP to your site. It works the same way as a "regular" FTP, with an exception of giving your visitors an option dialog box to Download a file from its current location or to Save to a disk



Setting up your Anonymous FTP site:

  1. Use the Additional Service Confirmation letter that was sent to you upon successful completion of your order for Anonymous FTP service.
  2. Access the WS_FTP LE software.
  3. Enter the Server Name of your FTP site in the Host Name/Address: field.
    (Server Name is assigned by "We Host Anyone". It is not the same as your IP address)
  4. Enter your username and your password.
  5. You're now in your FTP directory.Upload your files and you can view your files via your browser by typing ftp://ftp.(your_domain.name)/pub/(ftp_username)/
  6. Sample Confirmation Letter

    Your anonymous FTP has been added: You can access it by going to: ftp://ftp.(your_domain.name)/pub/(ftp_username)/ You can upload to:
